Eclectic Farmhouse Living
What do you get when you combine an established art collection and traditional heirlooms with a horse farm in the countryside? Eclectic & chic Farmhouse!
The client downsized from her Springfield, Va colonial home, which was filled with antique furniture and unique wall art, and purchased a horse farm in Loudoun county that needed some tender loving care before she could call it home. In the living room, the return wall vent is camouflaged by hanging a pierced metallic art piece at an angle. This positioning draws the eye up and hides the vent while still allowing for air to flow through the vent. Splashes of gold accents in a variety of sheens and finishes combine both the traditional and contemporary vibes creating a unique Purcellville home in which to retire.
As seen in this before-and-after photo, The plan to remove the wing walls created a great room where she can enjoy coffee by the bay window and watch TV on the comfy sofa.
The design intent was to create a large great room with three zones: coffee nook; TV lounge; fireplace reading zones. The plan eliminated the two short walls (wing walls); re-stained the existing wood floors a deeper walnut finish; painted the walls a fresh blue hue to create a farm-friendly feeling; and added custom-made etched wood cornices. See plan and photos below.
The outdated red brick fireplace at the end of the great room received a makeover with white paint and a live edge mantle which created a fresh and cozy seating area.
The fireplace received a much-needed facelift, featuring a beautiful layer of fresh white paint and an eye-catching, one-of-a-kind live edge mantel that adds a touch of sophistication. The wall art displayed in the space comes from the client’s original collection that she lovingly curated in her previous home. Everything else in the room was thoughtfully sourced and carefully selected specifically to beautifully complement the new design aesthetic.
In the adjacent den, the homeowner's furniture from 3 different rooms in the Springfield, Va house was accommodated and a new handmade rug tied all the pieces together.
This room was assembled by hand-selecting pieces from the client’s previous home and pulling it all together by sourcing the perfect hand-made rug, lamps, custom-made bird pillows, and a few decorative items.
The two blue chairs were in the client’s old master bedroom; the brass glass table and loveseat were in her old living room; the canary china cabinet was in her old dining room; the wall art from various rooms of her old house.
